İngilizce Hayvan Tanıtımı-Polar Bear

Polar Bears
The polar bear is the world’s largest land predator and also the
largest species of bear.
Male polar bears may grow to 10 feet tall and weigh over 1400
pounds. Females may reach 7 feet and weigh up to 650
pounds.
The only predators of polar bears are humans. Around 25,000 to 40,000 polar bears roam the Arctic today.
A female polar bear can start having babies at the age of four or five. They have their babies in a large cave that they’ve dug in a snow drift. Polar bears usually only have two cubs. These cubs are the size of a rat and usually weigh less than a pound. 70% of polar bears do not live to their third birthday.
Polar bears have long, narrow heads. They have a black nose and black skin. Polar bears may look white but their hair is translucent. They have large rough paw pads to prevent them from slipping on the ice. Their toes are slightly webbed to help them swim. Polar bears can swim up to 100 miles without stopping.

Polar bears hunt ringed and bearded seals. They will usually wait silently at a seal’s
breathing hole and wait for it to surface for air. Polar bears also hunt beluga whales, walrus, fish and reindeer. During the summer months they also eat berries and kelp (seaweed) if other food is unavailable. Polar bears also hunt by swimming under the ice. They use their huge front paws as paddles.
Climate change is the biggest threat to polar bears today. Polar bears use the ice as a platform to hunt seals, if this ice pack starts to melt it will have a great affect on their survival
