WHEN and WHiLE

When - While

When – While aynı anda olan iki olayı aynı cümlede ifade etmek için kullanılır.

I was speaking on the phone.                       My father came.

(Ben telefonda konuşuyordum)                      (Babam geldi)

  

While I was speaking on the phone, my father came.

                 (Ben telefonda konuşuyorken babam geldi.)

When  “olduğu” zaman anlamı katar.

When the car stopped, I got in.

(Araba durduğu zaman ben bindim)

While  “–iken” anlamı katar (mutlaka –ing cümleleriyle kullanılır)

She went out, while I was watching TV.

(Ben televizyon izlerken o dışarı çıktı)

Uyarı 1: Birleştirilen iki cümle arasında zaman uyumuna dikkat edin! Bir cümle geçmiş zamandaysa diğer cümle de geçmiş zamanda olmalıdır.         

 Uyar 2: When - While cümleleri esnektir. When – While lı cümle önce de yazılabilir  da yazılabilir. Anlamda bir değişiklik olmaz.

                  

“When I was ill, my friends helped me.”      “My friends helped me, when I was ill”

 (Hasta olduğumda arkadaşlarım bana yardım etti.)

Complete the sentences by using “when” and “while”

Example :

Dang arrived home. His sister was watching TV.

b. His sister was watching TV when Dang arrived home             

Using “when”

1. I was riding to the station. I saw him.
